In 1979, the Royal Canadian Mint issued the world’s first pure 24k gold bullion coin, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf. At that point, the only widely available gold bullion coin was the 22k South African Krugerrand. Gold Maple Leaf coins have a fineness of .9999, making them one of the purest gold coins regularly issued in the world. The Royal Canadian Mint’s insistence on using only the finest planchets, or coin blanks, in minting these coins has made the Gold Maple Leaf the standard against which all other 24k gold bullion coins are judged.
The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is available in the following denominations: $50, which contains one troy ounce of pure gold and measures 30mm in diameter; $20, which contains one half-ounce of pure gold and measures 25mm in diameter; $10, which contains one quarter-ounce of pure gold and measures 20mm in diameter; $5, which contains one tenth-ounce of pure gold and measures 16mm in diameter; and, finally, $1, which contains one twentieth-ounce of pure gold and measures 14mm in diameter. Each of these coins features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain on the obverse and the national symbol of Canada, the maple leaf, on the reverse. Gold Maple Leaf coins are traded around the world and their purity and weight are guaranteed by the Canadian Government.

Customer Reviews

  1. Awesome coin with low markup Review by Keith | May 8, 2012

Yes, these random-year gold Maples are at a very nice low margin, a great way to get an ounce of gold into your stack. And for those of you contemplating/contrasting this to maybe only having enough money to buy 1/2 oz or (shudder) 1/10th oz at a time, yet you want to buy now to get gold at some low spot price -- Don't do it! Wait until you can afford an ounce. Do the math. You'll pay like $180-200 more for an ounce of gold if you buy it in 1/10th oz pieces! Highly recommend you stay on the porch until you can buy this 1oz Gold Maple here.

  2. Bullion not collecting Review by Gregory | March 13, 2012

This is my second purchase of random year Canadian gold maple leaves. since I don't expect a flawless coin and my purpose is to acquire one once of pure gold in a recognized and trusted format, GCMLs are a cost effective way to purchase gold. You can collect your Eagles, I'll keep buying Malpe Leaves.

  3. Close to Min Review by hondaman16 | February 21, 2012

I received my coins today. I feel like pirate with these coins... Very nice condition, minor/to no signs of wear..

  4. Not flawless but still very nice Review by Steve | November 8, 2011

My random year Gold Maple Leaf came today in the mail. It did have a few minor scratches on it, but overall it is a nice one ounce gold coin. I think they are the best bargain on gold coins right now. Canadian Maples are one of my favorite gold coins.
