The obverse of the 10 oz Skull and Crossbones Silver Bar has been stamped with “TEN TROY OZ SILVER 999”, and the image of three piratic skulls with crossbones. Because this is a poured silver bar, no two bars will be identical. The exact shape and the design will render differently on each bar.
The process of pouring silver is involved, and requires rare talent and knowledge. During the process of pouring silver, refined Silver Shot is heated beyond its melting point, and poured from a crucible into a handcrafted mold. The silver is then allowed to cool while exposed to the open air. Because the silver cools as it is poured, and because it cools unevenly across the silver bar, each silver bar has a slightly different shape. Additionally, because the design is hand stamped as the bar is the silver is cooling, the design will render differently on each bar.
Each of these bars consists of 10 troy ounces of .999 Fine Silver. The inherent variation in shape and design, and the rustic appearance are characteristics that Silver collectors find most intriguing. Some people worry too much about the premium on hand-poured silver; I've found that poured silver retains its value on the secondary market, so you're really not "losing" any value when investing in these types of bars. If anything, they tend to gain value when selling, compared to standard stamped bars, which are clearly more of a commodity. That said, all of the Atlantis Mint bars are very attractive and one of the staples in my collection, due to their relatively low premium. I've bought 9 of them in the past month and they are all high-quality, fun-to-collect, beautiful bars!"

There is a bit of a premium on the hand poured bars vs. the stamped out bars, but relative to silver's historical price, these bars are still an extraordinary value. And each bar has its own look and character!! Highly recommend!!"

I wanted to come back and write a 2nd review after breaking down and buying 2 (well, now 3) of these bars. They have a fair amount of markup over the regular 10 oz bars, but there’s just something very cool about holding these lumps of “pirate treasure” in your hand. I think it’s worth it to have a few in my collection, tho that forces me to admit I’m “collecting”, not “investing” in silver sometimes. The quality that these bars arrive in is great, packaged very well. Although i rip away all the packaging immediately because there’s no point in having these bars if you can’t touch them, hold them in your hand and enjoy the heft and hand-poured variety in each one.

Provident says “these don’t carry the same premium as Sovereign Minted coins …” , so you savvy investors can save big bucks, essentially. However, you lose $20(!) in premiums the minute you buy it, and silver will have to go up $2 per oz just to break even on this investment(?). That said, this is a very cool looking item, and I’ll probably have to buy 1 or 2 of them anyway. :-)
