Collect a bit of Southern history with an Almost Uncirculated Stone Mountain Memorial Silver Half Dollar.

Provident Metals now offers these .90 silver coins. They were issued in 1925 to help pay for the Stone Mountain Memorial in Georgia, which honors the lives lost in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.

The obverse shows Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson on their horses, Traveller and Little Sorrel. You can clearly see the brass buttons on their uniforms and the sword hanging from the saddle. The words IN GOD WE TRUST are inscribed at the top rim alongside 13 stars. The year is inscribed to the bottom left along with STONE MOUNTAIN.

The reverse shows an eagle, wings spread as it prepares to fly. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM are on the top rim, while MEMORIAL TO THE VALOR OF THE SOLDIER OF THE SOUTH is to the middle-left. LIBERTY and HALF DOLLAR are toward the bottom rim. A field of stars decorates the background.

The coin was not without controversy, and was originally issued as a combined commemorative of the Confederate soldiers and to President Warren Harding, who had passed away at about the same time, so that Northern legislators would support the production. Before the coin design was finalized, however, President Calvin Coolidge had all mentions of Harding removed.

The coin was used as a fundraiser for the Stone Mountain Memorial, which is the world’s largest bas-relief sculpture. It is carved into Stone Mountain, in Georgia, and features Stonewall Jackson, Robert Lee, and Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

The almost uncirculated 1925 Stone Mountain Memorial Half Dollar is a fantastic talking point for your collection. Order yours from Provident Metals today.
