The 2012 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle is now available to our fine bullion customers, and the newest edition of this distinguished coin is sure to be as successful as its predecessors. We believe that its sustained popularity is no accident. The 2012 American Gold Eagle contains 1/4 Troy ounce of 22 karat crown gold and also has the distinction of being the only gold bullion coin whose content is guaranteed by the United States government. Because of these factors and its especially beloved design, the American Gold Eagle has become the most widely traded gold bullion coin in the world since its introduction in 1986. As further proof of its confidence in the value of the American Gold Eagle, prior to 1997, these coins were the only gold items of any kind allowed to fund Individual Retirement Accounts (i.e., IRAs). As required by U.S. law, American Gold Eagles must be struck in gold mined solely in the United States with a purity content of 91.67% or 22k. This represents the standard for gold coins for over 250 years. Our investors will enjoy the flexibility of purchasing the American Gold Eagle because it is available in four sizes: the $50 coin, containing one troy ounce of pure gold and measuring 32.7 mm in diameter; the $25 coin, containing one half troy ounce of pure gold and measuring 27mm in diameter; the $10 coin, containing one quarter troy ounce of pure gold and measuring 22mm in diameter; and, finally, the $5 coin, containing one tenth troy ounce of pure gold and measuring 16.5mm in diameter. You could choose to collect all four denominations, creating a complete set of these fine American coins.

All denominations of the 2012 American Gold Eagle share the same stirring design as their predecessors, differing only in their weights and stated face value. The obverse, or front of the coin, borrows its design directly from one of the most beautiful coins in US history: the 1907 Double Eagle. The famed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens was commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt to symbolize the emerging power of newly industrializing United States and to represent her spirit of liberty. Saint-Gaudens depicts a majestic Lady Liberty striding toward the viewer with the sun rising behind her, an olive branch in her left hand and a torch in her right. Appropriately emblazoned above her head is the word “Liberty.” The reverse side of the coin, designed by Miley Busiek as the chief sculptor for the United States Mint, was created specifically for the American Eagle. A proud American bald eagle with an olive branch in its talons can be seen flying toward his mate and their nest of hatchlings symbolizing the birth of freedom around the world. Inscribed appropriately across the bottom of the reverse side are the words “E Pluribus Unum” and “In God We Trust.” As pieces of numismatic art in their own right, these striking coins capture the spirit of the American people and their sense of individual liberty and freedom. Their artistic design may explain why they have been so highly prized by collectors around the world and their fine gold content explains why they are equally valued by bullion investors. We are confident that you will appreciate the value of the new 2012 American Gold Eagle as much as its predecessors. Security, beauty, history: the 2012 American Gold Eagle.
