The beautiful design of the 2012 5 oz Silver Panda follows an admirable tradition of handsome predecessors, and this issue will also feature a new depiction of the beloved panda. In ancient Asia, pandas were considered noble and rare creatures. Emperor Wen’s is said to have buried his mother with been a panda skull, and as gifts to foreign dignitaries as offers of good will, pandas served their ancestors much as they serve modern China. Today, China takes advantage of the panda’s status by offering them as unofficial diplomats to many nations. Protected fiercely around the world due to its endangered species status, the panda bear has become an unofficial symbol of China. The reverse features an often playful panda bear: munching on bamboo, watching over cubs, playing with another panda, walking through the forest, or sitting by the water’s edge. Each issue features distinctive variation in the Panda’s design, making each new issue highly anticipated.
The front of the 2012 Silver Panda is just as beautiful, boasting one of the worlds finest architectural structures, the historic Temple of Heaven. The temple was built from 1406 - 1420 during the Emperor Yongle’s reign to celebrate the Winter Solstice Harvest Ceremonies. The temple was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, and it has been described as "a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design.” Across the top of the coin, the Chinese characters 中華人民共和國 are inscribed, meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue is also inscribed across the bottom. Each five ounce Silver Panda weighs a substantial 155.5000 grams in 99.9% pure silver bullion. We are sure you will find the 2012 Silver Panda as fine an addition to your silver bullion portfolio as its predecessors. Rest assured that your Silver Panda will arrive in brilliant and uncirculated condition. The 2012 Silver Panda is a beautiful way to add to your collection of fine coins and to diversify your investment portfolio in a coin that is sure to retain its value with time.
