Due to its strategic point high across the trading route of Egypt and Assyria, Megiddo became desired by numerous ruling powers during the Bronze and Iron Ages. Guarding the western area of the pass and overlooking the Jezreel Valley, battles frequently took place to claim a ruler of the city.

Investors and collectors are still trying to claim the important site — but safely — in the form of this 2012 Proof Tel Megiddo NIS 2 Silver coin from Provident Metals. Each is composed of 28.8 grams of .925 sterling silver, produced by The Holy Land Mint.

The obverse prominently displays the coin’s face value of 2 new sheqel, along with a BCE 8th century seal identified at Megiddo. ISRAEL is inscribed in Hebrew, English and Arabic.

A staircase leading to the water system tunnel at Megiddo and a jug found from a dig are featured on the reverse. TEL MEGIDDO is engraved with emblems of Israel UNESCO and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Megiddo’s historic importance dates back to its mentions in Bible. Excavations since 1903 have unearthed a place of worship, stables and more. The New Testament refers to the city as Armageddon, which points to Christian tradition that the last battle at the end of days between good and evil will take place there.

The city’s significance was recognized in 2005 when UNESCO acknowledged Tel Megiddo as a World Heritage Site. It is also protected as a National Park and visited by thousands wanting to view the Holy Land.

Take a trip through time and enjoy the stories the 2012 Tel Megiddo Silver Proof coin has to tell. Invest today through Provident Metals’ online ordering system and your asset will arrive in a few short days.
