Each of the four coins share an identical reverse of the remarkable Statue of Liberty surrounded by inscriptions of “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “$1.” The obverses honor four different presidents, with the 2013 set featuring William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft and Woodrow Wilson.
The William McKinley obverse depicts his image along with the inscriptions “WILLIAM MCKINLEY,” IN GOD WE TRUST,” “25TH PRESIDENT” and “1897-1901.” Each obverse will be inscribed similarly with the only the name and number of presidency being different. McKinley guided the country to a victory in the Spanish-American War and saw rapid growth of the economy during his presidency that was cut short due to his assassination just months into his second term.
Theodore Roosevelt’s portrait bears the obverse of his coin. Roosevelt was the 26th U.S. President and was well-known for his personality, achievements and leadership during the Progressive Movement. He was the youngest president to be sworn in at the age of 42 in 1901. He served as president from 1901-1909.
As the 27th President of the U.S., William Howard Taft is displayed on the third coin of the 2013 set. He served from 1909-1913 and is the only person to serve as president and the Chief Justice of the United States. His tenure saw the Interstate Commerce Commission strengthen, improvement of the postal service and the creation of the 16th Amendment.
Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president, is celebrated on the fourth coin. He served from 1913-1921 while passing major progressive reforms and focusing on World War I and peace treaty negotiations.
