The reverse also includes a beautiful woman, the embodiment of Great Britain itself. The goddess Britannia is the patron of the island. She holds a triton, a nod to the country’s dependence on ocean travel, and an olive branch with a shield, a reminder of her peaceful and protective intentions. But she isn’t a woman you want to mess with: she wears a Roman-style helmet and looks out to sea, wary against attack. The rim bears the inscription BRITANNIA 2014 1 oz 999 FINE SILVER.
Each coin is 38.6 mm in diameter with a reeded edge.
