Native to Australia, kangaroos can adapt to many habitats with a diet consisting of plants, shrubs, grass and tree leaves. Because of the moisture in their food, the mammals can go without drinking water for lengthy periods.

The athletic animals can jump up to 10 feet high and 30 feet in distance while reaching speeds of nearly 40 mph. They are social creatures and often live in groups called mobs. When in danger, a kangaroo will alert others by thumping the ground with their large feet.

Perth Mint

The Perth Mint was established in 1899 after gold was found in local Australian deposits. It remained under control of Great Britain until Australia took ownership in 1970.
