Kookaburras are known for their distinct call that is often compared to loud, echoing human laughter. The birds, the largest of the kingfisher species, are carnivorous, with a diet consisting of snakes, small reptiles, mice, fish, insects, and sometimes even baby birds. They typically grow between 11 and 17 inches in length.

The obverse portrays the longest reigning British Monarch in history, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Ian Rank-Broadley created the right-facing image of the Queen, which is surrounded by inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA,” “2016” and “30 DOLLARS.”

Manufactured at the Perth Mint, these 1 Kilo Kookaburras are backed by the Australian government and guaranteed to contain 32.15 oz of .999 fine silver. While their legal tender denomination is $30, its true value is in its silver composition, making it an excellent addition to Silver Bullion collections. Kookaburras will only be produced in 1 oz, 10 oz and 1 kilo silver in 2016.
