  • Displaying historic parks and sites around the U.S., the 2012 America the Beautiful Silver Coin Series presents investors and collectors a stunning collection of 5 oz. .999 fine silver coins. The 2012 series is the third year of the program that will ultimately produce 56 silver rounds. The U.S. Mint's ATB series assists in preserving wealth and adds value to any portfolio.

The highly-anticipated El Yunque is the first coin released in the 2012 ATB set. The 5 ounce coin commemorates El Yunque National Forest, which is located in Puerto Rico and home to the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. The El Yunque coin is adorned with images of the Coqui frog and the Puerto Rican Amazon bird, both of which are unique species to the forest.

The 12th coin released in the America the Beautiful Series is the Chaco Culture round. Celebrating the Chaco Culture National Historical Park, this coin depicts Chaco Center in New Mexico, an ancient gathering place for the Pueblo people. The area was officially designated a National Historical Park in 1980.

The Acadia coin is the third coin in the 2012 set that honors Acadia National Park, located near Bar Harbor, Maine. The image on the reverse side of the Acadia coin illustrates Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, visited by millions of tourists each year. During the early half of the 20th century, philanthropist John D. Rockefeller took great measures to improve the park and make it accessible for tourists. The result of Rockefeller's assiduous efforts still exist within the park today.

The Hawai'i silver coin is dedicated to the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, home to the world's most active volcano, Kilauea, and the world's largest volcano, Mauna Loa. The reverse portrays an eruption on the eastern part of the Kilauea volcano. In 1980, the park was declared an International Biosphere Reserve and seven years later, it was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

The fifth and final coin in the 2012 America the Beautiful Series commemorates Denali National Park, located in Interior Alaska. The coin celebrating Denali National Park bears an image of Mount McKinley on the reverse side as well as the Dall Sheep, a mammal most commonly associated with the park. The park is well-known for being home to Mount McKinley, the highest peak in North America.

While each coin is composed of 5 troy ounces of .999 silver, each also features a restored George Washington portrait originally designed for the 1932 Washington Quarter.

Even if you have never visited these national sites, their stunning designs on the U.S. Mint's ATB series not only display their beauty, but they work as inflation-hedge instruments.
