A currency collection isn’t complete without the 1935 or 1957 “small size” $1 Silver Certificate from Provident Metals. This circulated example of the series is also perfect for the history enthusiast because of its creation in response to the Fourth Coinage Act enacted in 1873.
The act welcomed the gold standard while demonetizing silver, making gold quantity the measurement for the economy. Most nations had moved to the gold standard by 1896 and ultimately ended the production of the half dime and the silver three and two cent pieces, all minor coins.
To counter the Coinage Act of 1873, the silver certificates were created to redeem silver dollar coins of the same face value or raw silver bullion. In 1968, the certificates could be exchanged for Federal Reserve Notes, even though they are still legal tender, but very obsolete.
George Washington is featured on the obverse of the $1 Silver Certificate that reads “THIS CERTIFICATE IS ON DEPOSIT IN THE TREASURY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” The reverse depicts the Great Seal of the United States.

OverallI am very excited that my 20 $1 silver certificates arrived today. I was expecting each bill to come in its own plastic holder, but they didnt. Other than a slight misunderstanding there, I couldn't be happier and I will absolutely buy from Provident metals again.
