The S.S. Tilawa, sometimes referred to as the “Indian Titanic,” was a British India Steam Navigation Company liner that tragically sank during World War II. In November 1942, while carrying silver bullion from Bombay to Durban, South Africa, the ship was hit by Japanese torpedoes and sank in the Indian Ocean.
