This US Mint 1/10th Troy Ounce Uncirculated Platinum Eagle is composed of 99.95% Platinum and has been minted at the Philadelphia Mint. Dates will range from 1997 through 2008. This item is eligible for IRA Investments.Introduced in 1997, the American Platinum Eagle coins are the first and only platinum bullion coins ever offered to the public by the U.S. Mint. They are also the only platinum coins in the world whose face value, purity, and weight are guaranteed by the government of the United States. As a further testament to the American government’s belief in the soundness of these coins and their suitability as investments, American Platinum Eagles have been approved since their introduction for the funding of Individual Retirement Accounts (i.e., IRAs).
American Platinum Eagles are composed of .9995 fine platinum and are offered in the following four denominations: $100, the highest face value of any U.S. coin ever issued, which contains one troy ounce of pure platinum and measures 32.7mm in diameter; $50, which contains one half-ounce pure platinum and measures 27mm in diameter; $25, which contains one quarter-ounce pure platinum and measures 22mm in diameter; and, finally, $10, which contains one tenth-ounce pure platinum and measures 10.5mm in diameter. All four denominations share the same overall design, only differing in their stated face values and weights. The obverse, or front, of the coin was designed by U.S. Mint chief engraver John Mercanti and depicts the head of the Statue of Liberty, our universal symbol of freedom, gazing confidently forward. The reverse, or back, of the coin, designed by U.S. Mint sculptor Thomas D. Rogers, displays a soaring American eagle above a newly rising sun.
