Issued by the United States Mint’s Philadelphia location, the 1/10 oz American Platinum Eagle was introduced in 1997 and produced annually through 2008. Each coin has a face value of $10, a composition of .9995 fine platinum and a diameter of 10.5 mm.
The mintage date on each coin varies, depending on the year of issue. Each Eagle includes a certificate of authenticity in addition to arriving in its original U.S. Mint packaging.
The obverse of the coin was designed by Chief Engraver, John Mercanti. Featuring a closeup of the Statue of Liberty, the word LIBERTY and two phrases, IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM are prominently engraved at the top and two sides of the coin. The date of mintage can be seen on the right-hand side.
The reverse, designed by American sculptor Thomas D. Rodgers, features a soaring eagle and sunrise. The weight, composition and face value are additionally included.
