Engelhard Corporation was established in 1902 by Charles W. Engelhard Sr. and became one of the most respected names in precious metals refining and production. Thanks to MTB and the MKS PAMP Group, Engelhard-branded products are back on the market. These new releases bring back timeless Engelhard designs, including gold rounds modeled after the Gold Prospector series first issued in the 1970s. Today, 1/10 oz Gold Engelhard Prospector Rounds are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1/10 oz Gold Engelhard Prospector Round is finished with proof-like visuals, combining frosted elements with reflective backgrounds. Rounds are packaged individually in sealed assay cards, and the total mintage for this release is just 5,000 pieces.
Obverse
The obverse of the Gold Engelhard Prospector Round features the well-known Engelhard logo, a bold capital E within a globe design. The Engelhard name is shown above, while the inscriptions for purity, weight, and metal content are placed below. The inscriptions here read ENGELHARD, 24 KARAT, 999.9 PURE, and ONE TENTH TROY OUNCE FINE GOLD.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1/10 oz Gold Prospector Round is the iconic image of a prospector. He is shown crouching beside a creek, panning for metals in the style that was common throughout the gold and silver rush period of the 1800s. Inscriptions here read U.S.A., 2025, and THE AMERICAN GOLD PROSPECTOR.
History
The historic Prospector Series from Engelhard was inspired by the gold and silver rushes of the 19th century. Prospectors included both individual miners and organized groups, using everything from pans and sluices to hydraulic equipment and hard-rock techniques. These efforts helped influence how towns, trade routes, and local industries developed across western North America.
