Platinum coins represent a different coin for investors looking to diversify on top of their existing gold and silver bullion coin holdings. While gold and silver coins come in various weights and programs, you will find that platinum coins are a little harder to find, particularly in fractional-ounces. Today, you have the chance to purchase 1/10 oz Platinum Coins in varied conditions and random years from any mint at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Currently, there is only one existing coin series with a 1/10 oz platinum coin. The British Britannia 1/10 oz Platinum Coin was introduced in 2018 and is the leading platinum bullion coin in the market right now. Historically, the United States Mint issued the American Eagle 1/10 oz Platinum coin from 1997 to 2008 in bullion and proof options. From 1988 to 2002, the Royal Canadian Mint also issued a 1/10 oz platinum coin in its Canadian Maple Leaf series.
Obverse
American Eagle Platinum Coins feature the image of the Statue of Liberty on the obverse field in each year, regardless of the bullion or proof version of the coin. The British Britannia coin features the Queen of England on the obverse. Her Majesty is depicted in right-profile relief on the obverse of Britannia 1/10 oz Platinum coins and only features in the fifth-generation design from the Royal Mint created in 2015 by Jody Clark.
Reverse
Design elements vary on this side of the coins as well. The American Eagle 1/10 oz Platinum Coins feature an eagle in flight over the United States as designed by Thomas D. Rogers in 1997. The British Britannia 1/10 oz Platinum Coin comes with the Philip Nathan design of Britannia guarding the coast of England as the female personification of the country.
History
Platinum coins are not as common as gold and silver options. The leading platinum coins available today, regardless of weight, are the American Eagle, Austrian Philharmonic, Lunar Series III coins, and the British Britannia.
