Their travels documented the regions landscapes and native communities, helping shape Arizonas early history while leaving a complex legacy tied to cultural conversion.

History

The primary scene focuses on San Xavier del Bac, also known as the White Dove of the Desert. This striking mission south of Tucson lies within the Tohono Oodham San Xavier Indian Reservation. Recognized as a National Historic Landmark, it remains a working parish and a fine example of Spanish Colonial design, admired for its bright white walls and beautifully preserved artwork.
