Obverse

Reverse

The reverse of the 1/2 oz Silver Aztec Calendar Round shows a profile of Emperor Cuauhtemoc facing right. He became ruler in 1520 and served as the last leader of the Aztec Empire. During the Spanish invasion led by Hernan Cortes, he worked to defend the capital city. Although Tenochtitlan fell in 1521, his leadership remains significant. He was later captured and executed in 1525. The inscriptions read 1/2 TROY OUNCE and 999 FINE SILVER.
