The obverse features the full-length image of Lady Liberty, created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. She is featured striding out from the rising sun and the nation’s Capitol with her robe and hair billowing behind her. She holds a torch high in her right hand to provide a guiding light for the nation, while her other hand grasps the olive branch of peace. “LIBERTY” is inscribed within a ring of 50 stars, and the year of issue emerges from the sun’s rays.
Each coin’s reverse features a male eagle returning to its nested family with an olive branch clutched in its talons, while the female eagle stands watchful guard over the young hatchlings. Also included are the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” along with the coin’s weight, purity, and legal tender value.
