The Barber Coinage was issued by the United States Mint from 1892 to 1916. The series featured a shared obverse design on all three denominations in the range: dime, quarter, and half dollar. The dime was the only coin in the series with a unique reverse design as the smaller surface area allowed for only the denomination and wreath. Provident Metals now has a $1 Face Value lot of 90% Silver Barber Dimes available to you for online purchasing.
When you purchase the $1 Face Value lot of 90% Silver Barber Dimes in this product listing, you will receive a total of 10 coins inside of a plastic bag. The bag has dimes with various date marks. Coins in this series were produced from 1892 to 1916 and your bag could feature 10 coins with the same date marks, or will more likely come with various different date marks.
These coins are available as cull specimens in this listing. Cull coins have no collectible value, but do maintain the value of the 90% silver contained within each. The cull condition indicates the coins have signs of heavy wear and tear, as well as severe damage such as holes, dents, cracks, deep scratches, contact marks, and hairlines.
The obverse side of the 90% Silver Barber Dimes comes with a right-profile bust of Liberty. Designed in a Greco-Roman figure, she has masculine features, a crown wreath on her head, and a cap holding her hair up in a bun at the back of her head. Inscriptions include only United States of America and the date mark.
On the reverse face of 90% Silver Barber Dimes is an inscription at the center of One Dime. Around the denomination is a wreath. Coins in this series have a mint mark if struck by the Denver Mint, New Orleans Mint, or San Francisco Mint. Those mint marks of D, O, and S will feature beneath the wreath on this side. Philadelphia Mint coins have no mint marks.
The Barber Coinage is named for the designer, Charles E. Barber. Mr. Barber was the 6th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and succeeded his father, William Barber, in the role of Chief Engraver.
