Obverse

Benjamin Franklin is depicted in three-quarter profile relief in the obverse design of the 1 Gram Gold $100 Benjamin Franklin Replica Note. This image is the same as the one that appears on the circulation $100 Federal Reserve Note and is based on Joseph Duplessis 1778 portrait of Franklin. The note depicts Franklin alongside the opening lines from the Declaration of Independence, a quill pen, and an inkwell. There are various inscriptions on this side that include One Hundred Dollars, United States of America, and Federal Reserve Note. There is also a replica serial number on the gold note, just as one would find on a Federal Reserve Note.

Reverse

Independence Hall is found on the reverse of 1 Gram Gold Benjamin Franklin Replica Notes. The design of the $100 Federal Reserve Note was issued in 1914 with Franklin on the obverse. Independence Hall was not added to the reverse until 1928. Inscriptions on this side include United States of America, In God We Trust, One Hundred Dollars, and most notably, a horizontal inscription of 100 that is colorized.

History

The $100 US bill is arguably the most distinctive Federal Reserve Note in circulation today. It is the most prominent bill ahead of the $1 Bill in terms of how many notes are in circulation. It is one of two Federal Reserve Notes with someone other than a former US President on the obverse, and the only Federal Reserve Note with a building or monument outside of Washington D.C. on the note.
