Goldbacks are privately issued notes created for voluntary local use. Each note is produced by sealing a thin layer of 24-karat gold between flexible sheets of polyester film. The notes feature intricate artwork and contain a carefully measured amount of physical gold, offering a unique way to hold small fractional quantities of the metal. Goldbacks were first introduced in Utah and have since expanded to additional states, combining the long history of gold as money with a modern design intended for exchange. The Idaho Goldback series is the newest release and features imagery inspired by the states landscapes and heritage. Right now, 1 Idaho Goldback Gold Note Sets are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1 Idaho Goldback Gold Note Set available here includes a total of 100 individual notes wrapped together with a black bundle strap. The notes incorporate multiple security features, including UV-reactive design elements, micro-printing, and unique serial numbers on each individual note.
Design
On the 1 Idaho Goldback Gold Note, the qualities of Fides are represented by a pioneer woman traveling through the Idaho frontier. She pauses on the trail with her young son while their family wagon rests nearby near the City of Rocks. Located in south-central Idaho near the town of Almo, the City of Rocks National Reserve is known for its striking granite formations rising above the surrounding sagebrush plains. The landscape features tall spires, domes, and large monoliths. During the nineteenth century, travelers on the California Trail frequently stopped in this area and carved their names into the rocks using axle grease from their wagons. Many of those inscriptions can still be faintly seen today.
History
Fides was the Roman goddess connected with trust, faith, and loyalty. She played a meaningful role in Roman culture and was one of the earliest deities to receive official public worship. Fides was typically portrayed as a dignified woman dressed in white garments, a color that symbolized honesty and sincerity. In various artistic depictions, she may be shown extending her right hand to represent agreement or commitment, or holding symbols such as an olive branch or ears of grain that reflect peace and cooperation.
