Obverse
On the obverse of the 1 oz Antique The Lost World Collection Velociraptor Silver Rounds there is a velociraptor in left-profile relief. If you have been collecting previous rounds in this series, you may have noticed some of the dinosaurs face left while others face right. The mint determined that all of the herbivores would face right, while the carnivores would be in left-profile relief. Youll see Latinate genealogy inscriptions also on the obverse reading VELOCIRAPTOR, INAE, IDAE, PODA, SAURI, DIN, CHO, ANIM.
Reverse
The reverse of 1 oz Antique Velociraptor Silver Rounds contains the words LOST WORLD COLLECTION inscribed across the center of the design. These words are accompanied by bits of foliage and dinosaur footprints. This memorable design is common to all entries in this series. Also shown are the hallmarks reading 1 OZ .999 FINE SILVER.
History
Velociraptors lived around the current-day Mongolia-China border between 71 and 75 million years ago. Roughly the size of a wolf, these intelligent and frightening predators had particularly strong back legs, which gave them support as they tore into their prey with their shorter front legs. While they lacked much power when working alone, as a pack Velociraptors could take down mighty prey such as the Protoceratops.
