The obverse design of the Colorized Silver The Wild Elk Round features a striking depiction of an elk in its mountainous habitat. The animals large frame fills the scene, framed by dense forests that lead toward snow-capped peaks in the distance. Elk, also called wapiti, rank among the largest species in the deer family, with mature bulls standing five feet tall at the shoulder and weighing up to 700 pounds. Inscriptions include only ELK.

History

Male elk grow large antlers each year, often spanning around four feet and weighing as much as 40 pounds. These antlers are shed every winter and regrown in the spring.
