Private mints around the world replicate designs popular on historic coins. In many cases, quality versions of the original coins are no longer available because those coins feature-heavy wear and tear from use in circulation. Those designs include the Buffalo Nickel image that can be found on silver bars, silver rounds, and copper rounds. Right now, you can buy 1 oz Copper Buffalo Rounds online at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with an individual protective plastic flip, a mint tube of 16, or a box of 400 copper rounds!
  • Features the historic Buffalo Nickel design!
  • Contains 1 AVDP oz of .999 pure copper.
  • On the obverse is a right-profile indigenous figure.
  • The reverse depicts an American bison in left-profile relief.

With your purchase of a 1 oz Copper Buffalo Round comes an individual protective plastic flip. If you purchase multiples in this product listing, you will receive multiples of 16 in a tube or multiples of 400 in a box. The box contains a total of 25 tubes with 16 rounds each. The 1 oz Copper Buffalo Rounds are available to you in this product listing in brand-new condition.

Obverse

On the obverse face of the 1 oz Copper Buffalo Rounds is a depiction of a stoic indigenous figure. The Native American figure shown here is in right-profile relief with the word Liberty inscribed on the edge of the design field just off the nose of the individual. The SilverTowne pick-ax mint logo is shown at the bottom of the copper round.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 1 oz Copper Buffalo Rounds includes an image of the American bison. Better known as the buffalo, this image shows the massive land mammal on a small mound of dirt. The design is accompanied by inscriptions of United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 AVDP Oz Fine Copper.

History

The designs shown on the obverse and reverse of these Copper Buffalo Rounds were created in 1913 by James Earle Fraser. He was commissioned by the US Mint and Treasury Department in the early 1910s as one of many artists competing to provide new designs to the US Mint for its circulating coinage. Gold coins had already been redesigned in 1907 and 1908, with the US nickel and 90% silver coins redesigned in the 1910s.

Frasers Buffalo Nickel design combined the facial features of three real-world indigenous tribal leaders to create his stoic Native America, while Black Diamond from the Central Park Zoo was the inspiration for the bison design on this side. It featured on the Buffalo Nickel from 1913 to 1938.
