The $2 (USD) bill is one of the lowest-printed bills among US circulation. The modern $2 bill accounts for just 1% of all US currency in circulation in the 21st century following a reduction program in the printing of $2 bill starting in the 1950s. Following the Civil War, $2 bills were a popular issue in various notes. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase 1 oz Copper $2 Banknote Bars from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a protective plastic case, a tube case of 20 bars, or a box of 500 bars!
  • Based on the 1899 $2 Silver Certificate issue!
  • Contains 1 AVDP oz of .999 pure copper.
  • On the obverse is a portrait of President George Washington.
  • The reverse side includes an ornate oval with the denomination and nation of issue.

The current $2 bill in the United States features a portrait of the nations third president, Thomas Jefferson. The design was created in 1928 and remains in circulation today, though in the low numbers mentioned in the opening. Between the Civil War and 1928 though, the $2 bill enjoyed robust circulation as United States Notes, National Bank Notes, and Silver Certificates.

Obverse

On the obverse side of 1 oz Copper $2 Banknote Bars, you will find an effigy of President George Washington. This design was featured on the final redesign and issuance of $2 silver certificates in the United States. It depicts the nations first president in front-facing relief with the denomination in all four corners, a large 2 to the left of Washington, and two statues supporting the portrait.

Reverse

The reverse of 1 oz Copper $2 Banknote Bars comes with a simple design. A similar oval in the center of this copper bar includes the denomination as Two Dollars with United States of America across the center.

History

The Washington portrait was the last redesign on the $2 silver certificate. These silver certificates were viewed with skepticism by banks across the country and were only available starting in 1886. The original design featured the image of Winfield Scott Hancock, with subsequent designs including the 1891 William Windom design and the 1896 Allegory of Science design.
