Copper rounds are an incredibly affordable and popular way to both collect unique precious metal designs and diversify the type of physical metals held beyond gold, silver, platinum, or palladium. Copper rounds have emerged as a top choice among many investors and one of the common design elements of these products are historic US coins and banknotes. Today, you have a chance to get 1 oz Copper $5 Banknote Rounds online at Provident Metals.

  • Arrives with individual flips or mint tubes of 20 copper rounds!
  • Replicates the famous $5 silver certificate from 1899!
  • In brand-new condition!
  • Contains 1 AVDP oz of .999 pure copper.
  • The obverse depicts an indigenous tribal chief.
  • On the reverse is a banknote design.

The design featured on both sides of the 1 oz Copper $5 Banknote Round comes from previous circulation in the United States. Though the nation no longer issues any paper currency beyond Federal Reserve Notes, there was a time when various types of notes were issued in the US. This included silver certificates. In 1899, the US issued a $5 silver certificate banknote with the bust of an indigenous tribal chief. This silver note was in circulation in the United States from 1899 to the early 1920s and the largest denomination of silver certificates in circulation at the time following an 1899 redesign effort.

Obverse

The obverse side of 1 oz Copper $5 Banknote Rounds includes the obverse imagery from the $5 silver certificate. While this includes images typical of banknotes, such as serial numbers and denominations, the primary element is the portrait of Chief Running Antelope. He was the first indigenous figure to feature on US notes or coins.

Reverse

On the reverse face of 1 oz Copper $5 Banknote Rounds, you will find a replica of the reverse from the 1899 $5 silver certificate. An ornate design includes the denomination of the original silver certificate in three versions. The upper corners feature a 5, while the center has a large Roman numeral V. The lower corners have Five noted. Inscriptions include 1 oz .999 Fine Copper and United States of America.

History

While other US notes and coins, such as the popular Buffalo Nickel, used images of randomized indigenous figures, the 1899 $5 silver certificate note was different. The figure shown here is that of Chief Running Antelope. He was the chief of the Hunkpapa, sometimes spelled Oncpapa, tribe of Lakota Indians. Running Antelope died in 1896, three years before his image graced the silver certificate.
