Where would the Christmas celebrations of millions of families be without a Christmas tree to gather around on December 25th to exchange and open gifts? The Christmas tree has become a fixture of Christmas in the centuries since 1576 when Martin Luther added the first lighted candles to an evergreen tree displayed during the holiday season. Fill the stockings of the ones you love this holiday season with 1 oz Copper Christmas Tree Rounds available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
A simple evergreen conifer tree is quickly transformed into an emblem of the holiday season by Christmas revelers each year. Adding lights, decorations, garland, and other items to the tree is a sign that Christmas is coming and is a way to brighten up any home during the holiday season. Most Christmas trees are spruce, pine, or fir species. The use of these trees indoors during the holiday season is closely associated with the celebration of Christmas and originated in Northern Europe.
Obverse
For the obverse of 1 oz Copper Christmas Tree Rounds, the Osborne Mint features a common Christmas tree decorated with balls, garland, and a star at the top. Beneath the tree, you will notice wrapped gifts waiting to be opened on Christmas morning. To either side of the design field, there is a candy cane wrapped in holly. An inscription on this face reads Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Reverse
The reverse side of the Copper Christmas Tree Rounds shares the same design element the Osborne Mint uses on all of its copper round issues this holiday season. A collection of snowflakes falls down in the background field of the reverse. Each one has its own distinct shape, style, and size.
History
Although Renaissance-era Europeans are credited with the origin of the modern Christmas tree, its roots actually go back much further to human history and arent even associated with religious celebrations of Christians. The Hebrew Bible makes mention of a tree of paradise often associated later with plays that took place on December 24th. The use of evergreens, garland, and wreaths to decorate structures is found in the customs of Ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Hebrew societies. Pagans in the Roman Empire celebrated the mid-winter festival of Saturnalia by decorating homes with wreaths of evergreen plants as well.
