She lived in 11th-century Anglo-Saxon England. She was a noblewoman and wife of Leofric, Earl of Mercia. Lady Godiva and her husband were active patrons to various churches and monasteries in England at this time, but she is famously remembered for the legend surrounding her protest of taxes imposed on the people by her own husband.
