Liberty is featured on the obverse side of the 1 oz Copper Peace Dollar Round in a replica of the famous design from Anthony de Francisci. The left-profile bust of Liberty features flowing hair and a tall crown reflect of rays of sunshine. Her bust is featured along with inscriptions of Liberty along the top design rocker and In God We Trust on either side of her neck at the bottom of the bust.
The private mint that produces these 1 oz Copper Peace Dollar Rounds features a common design element on the reverse of its copper rounds. The design includes a set of eagles wings spread open with a US shield at the center of the wings. The shield has three stars in its design with the central star larger than the other two and set higher on the shield with its highest point cresting the top of the shield. The American flag flaps in the breeze above the shield and the initials USA are inscribed below. A commemorative date of 1921 from the first year of Peace Dollar availability is available on the copper round.
De Franciscis design for the Peace Dollar was submitted to the United States Mint in 1921 as the mint sought new designs for the silver dollar that were reflective of the hard-earned peace America had fought for in World War I. The Peace Dollar arrived in 1921 when the Morgan Dollar had been reissued for the first time since 1904. Peace Dollars went into circulation in late 1921 and was produced through 1928, then issued again in 1934 and 1935. It was the last 90% silver US silver dollar issued by the United States Mint.
