Obverse

The reverse face of the Copper SilverTowne Walking Liberty Round features an American bald eagle. Seemingly paused in flight, the eagle spreads its massive wings wide to support its body in the air. The other major engravings include two horizontal lines with USA beneath them and a single American star.

History

Adolph A. Weinmans Walking Liberty design won a US Mint and Treasury Department design contest in 1916. Despite initial struggles to strike the design well, the US Mint went on to use the Walking Liberty design on the half dollar until 1947. Since 1986, it has served as the obverse design of the American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins.
