With the release of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916, the United States Mint got one of its most beautiful circulation coin designs of all time. The design from Adolph A. Weinman stands with the likes of Augustus Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle image of Liberty and his own Mercury/Winged Liberty design for the 1916 US Dime.

Obverse

Walking Liberty is depicted in the obverse design of these 1 oz Copper DAnconia Walking Liberty Rounds. This image features Libertys full-length figure in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon. As she does, she reaches out with her right hand while carrying branches of oak and laurel in her left. The American flag is draped around her figure.

Reverse

An American bald eagle is depicted in the reverse field of Copper DAnconia Walking Liberty Rounds. This visual element includes a bald eagle perched on a cliff ledge as it clutches a small sapling. Its wings are raised of if it is prepared to take off at any moment.

History

The Walking Liberty design was used on the half dollar from 1916 to 1947. Following its replacement with the Benjamin Franklin Half Dollar, it was later revived and modernized in 1986 for use on the American Eagle Silver bullion coins. It now features on the BU, Proof, and Burnished versions of the coin each year.
