The South Korean Tiger Medal Series from KOMSCO was introduced in 2016 alongside the all-new Chiwoo Cheonwang Collection. Both series of bullion medals took the world by storm offering bullion and proof options. The first-ever proof South Korean Tiger was the 1 oz gold medal. Right now, you can get the 2016 Proof South Korean Tiger 1 oz Gold Medal in near-perfect condition online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of a 2016 Proof South Korean Tiger 1 oz Gold Medal, you receive a gold bullion product that is in near-perfect condition. The NGC assigns the PF69 grade to proof specimens that exhibit full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines found outside of the primary focal points of the coin.
Additionally, these medals come with a UCAM designation. Referring to the ultra-cameo brilliance of the strike, these gold medals have strong, frosted design elements with deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
Obverse
The obverse side of 2016 Proof South Korean Tiger 1 oz Gold Medals includes a depiction of the Siberian tiger, the primary species once known regionally as the Korean tiger. Here, the massive, powerful cat gazes stoically at the viewer. There is an inscription of Korean Tiger within the design field and a tiger-stripe pattern around the outer rim of the design.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2016 Proof South Korean Tiger Gold Medals, you will find the common design element for this series. The Korean peninsula is depicted here without geographic features or political boundaries. Instead, the peninsula is crafted out of the letters of the Hangul, the shared Korean alphabet.
History
The Siberian tiger species is the largest of these predatory cats and once roamed throughout the Siberian reaches of Russia, through Mongolia and China down onto the Korean peninsula. Locally, the cats were referred to as the Korean tiger. The last native Korean tiger was killed in 1921.
