The South Korean Crown Series from KOMSCO is a beautiful showcase of historic Korean culture. The design on the obverse of all issues in this ongoing collection is the same, offering a depiction of Sam-jok-o, but the reverse side changes with each new date in the series. The debut release featured one of the simplest crowns from the ancient Silla kingdom, rulers of much of Korea for more than 200 years from the 5th century to the 7th century AD. Provident Metals now has 1 oz Gold 2019 South Korean Crown available to you for purchase online.
When you purchase a 1 oz Gold 2019 South Korean Crown in this product listing at Provident Metals, you will receive a specimen that is individually housed in an acrylic capsule. The gold medals available here represent the first release in the ongoing South Korean Crown Series.
On the obverse of 1 oz Gold South Korean Crowns is a depiction of the bird known as Sam-jok-o. His depiction is a physical representation of the Sun god in Korean mythology and the image shown here is an artistic, stylized version of the figure. This field of the medal comes with inscriptions of 1 OZ, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, KOMSCO, and FINE GOLD 999.
The reverse side of the Gold South Korean Crown comes with an image of a towering, multi-pronged gold crown from the Silla dynasty. The field includes a depiction of the crown throughout the center-right portion of the medal, with inscriptions of GOLD CROWN and 2019. This side of the medal also has a latent security device that changes visuals as you alter your viewing angle while holding the medal.
The Kingdom of Silla dominated much of the Korean Peninsula from the 5th to 7th centuries AD. Artistry from the Silla dynasty shows a multicultural influence in the kingdom, with signs of influence from Chinese and Indian culture. One such example of this multicultural influence comes in the design of Silla gold crowns. A gold crown discovered in Afghanistan bears a striking resemblance to later Silla crowns, suggesting contact between the Kingdom of Silla and Scytho-Iranians, or Saka culture.
