Obverse
On the obverse the 1 oz Gold South Korean Phoenix Medal is a depiction of the mighty bird. History
The history of the phoenix goes all the way back to ancient Greek mythology, though there are many analogs in other cultures. One of the common backgrounds of the phoenix is its power of regeneration. It is believed to be born anew shortly after death, continuing its life from youth all over again. Some cultures have the phoenix dying in a burst of brilliant flames before emerging from the ashes as a renewed bird.
