The Scottsdale Mint and Argor-Heraeus combine to present the Scottsdale Lunar Series gold bars. Each new year comes with a design specific to that year on the Chinese lunar calendar. These Zodiac-themed bars come with a unique design that combines the figure of an animal with the Chinese symbol for that creature.

Obverse

Lunar rooster designs feature on the obverse of 1 oz Gold Lunar Year of the Rooster Bars. The design on this release includes the Chinese symbol for a rooster at the center. The animal is depicted in left-profile relief with the head of the rooster to the upper-left of the symbol and long, swooping tail feathers coming from the bottom-right of the symbol and curling under the image. Inscriptions include Year of the Rooster at the top of the bar and 2017 below.

Reverse

The combined mint logos are found on the reverse side of Gold Lunar Year of the Rooster Bar. The circular logo includes an outer ring with Scottsdale Mint and Argor-Heraeus inscribed within it. At the center of the seal are the American flag and the Swiss flag. Other inscriptions on this face include 1 Troy Ounce, .9999, and Fine Gold. The assayers mark is below these markings.

History

The Year of the Rooster arrived in 2017 and is the 10^th in the 12-year cycle of the Zodiac. Each of the animals in the Zodiac appears in a year as chosen by the Jade Emperor. The position of the animals in that cycle was determined by the arrival of each one to a meeting called by the Jade Emperor.
