Tracing its history back to the London Mint founded in 886 CE, the Royal Mint of England has more than 1,100 years of coining experience. Over the past millennium, the Royal Mints engravers have created designs representing countless different monarchs and the kingdom itself. William Wyon was one of those many engravers and arguably one of his most famous works now features as the debut issue of the The Great Engravers Series from the Royal Mint. Provident Metals happily offers 1 oz Gold Great Britain The Great Engravers Una and the Lion Bars to you for purchase online.
When you purchase the new 1 oz Gold Great Britain The Great Engravers Collection Una and the Lion Bar, you will receive each individual item inside of a protective blisterpack. The blisterback includes a two-sided assay card that is grey on the obverse and bears the mint and series names. The reverse of the card is light blue and offers authentication details for the bar, including the serial number assigned to each one.
Queen Victoria is featured on the obverse of 1 oz Gold Una and the Lion Bars in a bold reinterpretation of William Wyons classic design. Modernized by Jody Clark, this image features Queen Victoria in left-profile relief with a lion seated at her side as she clutches a scepter in her right hand and the globe of the monarch in her left hand.
The seal of the Royal Mint of England is found in the reverse design of 1 oz Gold Great Britain The Great Engravers Collection Bars. The mint seal features the crowned Royal Arms, a quartered shield with the coat of arms designs for England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The inscriptions on this face include The Royal Mint, 999.9, Fine Gold, and a two-letter, six-number serial code. Interestingly, the Royal Mint starts all serial numbers for this release with UL for Una and the Lion.
William Wyon features first in The Great Engravers Collection from the Royal Mint. He served as Chief Engraver from 1828 until his death in 1851. He created other memorable works during his time at the Royal Mint, including the Young Head bust of Queen Victoria for British coins used from 1838 to 1860 and the image that inspired the Penny Black stamp.
