These particular bars have amber colorization that results from an anodization process that creates the color courtesy of thin layers of oxide being applied.

Design

On the obverse of Niobium Amber Square Bars are several design elements. The symbol, name, and Atomic Number of the metal feature at the top as Nb, 41, and NIOBIUM. At the middle of the design field, you will find ONE OUNCE and 99.9% PURE. The Luciteria Science logo is at the bottom of the bar.

History

Niobium was originally believed to be the same metal as tantalum. Following its discovery in 1801, German chemist Heinrich Rose made the determination in 1846 that the metals were different, but that niobium and columbium were the same metal. Both names are still in use for the metal today.
