Designs

On the obverse of 1 oz Niobium Square Bars, you will find all of the engravings present on the piece. This includes the markings of NIOBIUM, Nb, and 41 at the top of the bar, representing the metal, its symbol from the Periodic Table of Elements, and the Atomic number. In the middle of the design field, the weight and purity are marked as ONE OUNCE and 99.9% PURE. The bottom of the design element has the Luciteria Science logo. History

Niobium was discovered in 1801 and named columbium by its discoverer, an English chemist by the name of Charles Hatchett. The element is very similar to tantalum and through its first half-century following discovery, many believed niobium was the same metal as tantalum. In 1849, it was definitively identified as a similar, but separate metal. The metal was actually known as columbium until niobium was officially adopted in 1949.
