The first release in this series had a mintage of just 30,000 medals, but due to the popularity of the coins, KOMSCO upped the mintage to 50,000 for the 2017 release.

Obverse

The obverse side of these coins is similar to the previous release. On this side of the coin, you will see a detailed image of the mask of Chiwoo Cheonwang. The mask appears demon-like. There are also engravings on this side of the coin that include the year of issue, metal content, weight, and nation of issue.

Reverse

On the reverse face of these coins, you will see Chiwoo Cheonwang in full armor. He wears a large mask as he holds a large spear in one hand and a shield in the other. He is seen mounted atop his powerful warhorse.

History

Chiwoo Cheonwang is considered the God of War in Korean folklore. He was said to be able to cast magical spells on his enemies, and he is rumored to be able to control the weather to help his forces in battle.
