In 2024, the United States Mint marks the anniversary of its first-ever silver dollar design, a significant milestone in the mints long history. Established in 1792, the US Mint introduced the Flowing Hair Silver Dollar in 1794, its first Liberty-themed design. Today, 1 oz Silver 2024 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Medals are available at Provident Metals.

Each 1 oz Silver 2024 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Medal comes with a protective capsule and is packaged in a special box from the US Mint. A Certificate of Authenticity is included to confirm its origins and purity. Within the total mintage of 75,000 medals, only 1,794 feature the exclusive 230 Privy Mark on the obverse, making these medals especially collectible.
Obverse
The obverse of the Silver 2024 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Medal showcases the original Flowing Hair Liberty design. This depiction of Liberty shows her in left-profile relief with her hair cascading freely, encircled by 13 stars, the 2024 date, and the anniversary privy mark. Inscriptions here include LIBERTY, 2024, and the 230 privy mark.
Reverse
The reverse of 1 oz Silver 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Medals features the heraldic eagle design originally seen on the Flowing Hair Dollar. This design shows a small bald eagle with its wings spread, perched atop a laurel wreath. Although this image was replaced in 1795, it remains a symbol of the US Mints earliest efforts. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
History
The Flowing Hair Dollar was first issued in October 1794, designed by Robert Scot, the US Mints first Chief Engraver. This historic silver dollar launched the Liberty coinage series and was minted for just two years before being replaced by the Draped Bust Dollar. Records show that approximately 1,700 coins were struck in 1794, with around 160,000 more minted in 1795. Of these, fewer than 150 of the 1794 coins are thought to remain, making this design a rare and meaningful piece of US Mint history.
