Obverse

The obverse of the Silver 2025 Bayern Thaler Round shows a detailed image of Neuschwanstein Castle. This famous 19th-century castle sits above the village of Hohenschwangau in the Bavarian Alps and was built under the direction of King Ludwig II. Known for its romantic architecture, the castle inspired the design of Disneys Sleeping Beauty Castle and remains a top destination for tourists, thanks to its dramatic towers and mountain setting. Inscriptions include BAVARIAN STATE MINT, 1 BAYERN THALLER, 2025, and NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1 oz Silver Bayern Thaler Round features the coat of arms of the Free State of Bavaria. This heraldic emblem includes five sections within a shield, each standing for a key region in Bavarian history. At the center of the shield is a blue and white diamond pattern that has represented Bavaria for centuries. The entire shield is crowned and flanked by stylized eagles for a traditional and formal look. Inscriptions read BAYERISCHES HAUPTMUNZAMT, SEIT 1158, 1 OZ AG 999, and MUNCHEN.

History

Though it appears medieval, Neuschwanstein was built using the modern innovations of the time, such as central heating, running water, and telephone service. King Ludwig II, sometimes referred to as the “Swan King,” imagined the castle as a personal escape and tribute to composer Richard Wagner. Sadly, he died before the castle was completed, having stayed there for only a short time.
