The obverse side of the Silver Americas First Pope Round presents a detailed portrait of Pope Leo XIV. Born Robert Francis Prevost, he is the first Pope in history to hail from the United States. The image captures him moments after his introduction, dressed in papal robes with his hands gently clasped in front of him. The inscriptions include FIRST AMERICAN PONTIFF, CARDINAL ROBERT FRANCISE PREVOST, 5-8-2025, and LEO XIV.
Reverse
The reverse side of 1 oz Silver Americas First Pope Rounds features a representation of Vatican City. This sovereign state, established by the Lateran Treaty in 1929, is the center of the Roman Catholic Church. It holds many cultural and artistic treasures, including St. Peters Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. History
The Latin phrase Habemus Papam is used to declare that a new Pope has been chosen. It is traditionally delivered by the Cardinal Protodeacon from the main balcony of St. Peters Basilica. This ceremonial statement comes at the conclusion of the Conclavea secretive voting process requiring a two-thirds majority by the cardinals to elect a new pontiff.
