Pirates are known for their burly attitudes, but there is no pirate more feared than Blackbeard, whose real name is Edward Teach. Teach was one of the most notorious pirates to sail the seas of the Caribbean, and he was also one of the most successful. Snag a piece of Blackbeards treasures in the form of the 1 oz Silver Antique Blackbeard Round from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Originally born in Bristol, England, Edward Teach was estimated to have arrived in Jamaica as a member of the Royal Navy in 1706 by genealogists. He was serving aboard the HMS Windsor during Queen Annes War.
He eventually switched from service to piracy, where he had one of the most successful one-year spans of piracy in human history. He was named for his long, thick black beard. He is known for capturing a French frigate that he renamed Queen Annes Revenge. He reinforced the ship and armed it with 40 cannons. He reigned the sea from 1717 to 1718, and he captured more than 40 ships.
Obverse
The obverse face of each of these rounds features the image of Blackbeard. In the image, you can see fuses tied to his beard, which he did to intimidate crew members on the ships that he attacked. He would often light these fuses before battle so they smoked and spit fire for intimidation.
Reverse
On the reverse of each round, you will see the flag that flew on Queen Annes Revenge, Blackbeards ship. On the flag, there was a skeleton toasting a drink with the devil while spearing a heart. Engravings on this side include the metal content, purity, and weight.
History
Created by Anonymous Mint, these rounds are considered limited edition with only 3,000 rounds in production.
