Obverse

George T. Morgans portrait of Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse side of the 1 oz Silver Antique Domed American Legacy Morgan Dollar Round. The obverse of all rounds in this series boasts a domed surface with incredible high relief that creates new visuals of old designs. Libertys left-profile portrait shines through with incredible detail and depth for the curls in her hair, the Liberty coronet on her head, and the wheat sheaves and cotton of her wreath crown.

Reverse

For the reverse, 1 oz Silver Antique Domed American Legacy Morgan Dollar Rounds have the same portrait of Liberty. Captured here in right-profile relief, it faces the opposite direction of the obverse design. Morgan sat through five design sessions with Anna Willis Williams as his model for the Liberty portrait that featured on the Morgan Silver Dollar.

History

The Morgan Silver Dollar design takes its place in the American Legacy Collection as the second design. The Morgan Silver Dollar debuted in 1878 after a five-year hiatus in silver dollar coining in the United States. The initial legislation that brought back silver dollar coining authorized the Morgan Silver Dollar for production until 1904 when new legislation halted silver dollar coining once more. When it resumed in 1921, the Morgan Dollar design was used until December when the new Peace Silver Dollar design was issued.
