Each of the designs that were featured in the 2016 release of the Hobo Nickel Silver Rounds was a clever nod of the head to the Buffalo Nickel design. Created by famed artist Mr. The, the rounds were immensely popular.

The 2017 Hobo Nickel series was designed by five new artists, each of whom contributed to the design of new rounds produced by the Osborne Mint and the Heads or Tales Coin Company. The first of the 2017 released designs was imagined by Roman Boteen and pays tribute to the 1513 creation of Albrecht Durer. This artwork is called asKNIGHT, DEATH, AND DEVIL, and depicts a lone knight on horseback, with his dog at his side. This is image is said to be one of his so-called Meisterstricth, or master prints.

Obverse

The obverse design of the 1 oz Silver Antique Durer’s Knight Hobo Nickel Series features the image of Durers Knight, as recreated by artist Boteen. The original work of art featured the rider passing through a narrow gorge. A goat-headed devil was poised behind him and death was shown riding on a pale horse in front of him.

Reverse

The reverse design of the 1 oz Silver Antique Durer’s Knight Hobo Nickel Series features the image of a death tree. This haunting tree has a human skull under it, with a sword peeking out from the trees sprawling roots. A quiver of arrows is also shown under the tree. Above the tree is the Latin phrase E Pluribus Unum.

Each of the 1 oz Silver Antique Durer’s Knight Hobo Nickel Series features an antique finish. This finish is achieved by means of a polish that adds warmth and depth to the details of the round. The antique finish lends an heirloom quality to the rounds, without them needing to be handled.

Each of the 1 oz Silver Antique Durer’s Knight Hobo Nickel Series rounds is shipped in a protective plastic capsule and includes a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
