The Kraken, born in mythology and tall fisherman and pirate tales, struck fear into the hearts of those who ventured into the sea. The Krakens story reaches back in cultural lore in the 13th century. In reality, the legend of the Kraken is based off the giant squid that calls the deepest parts of the North Atlantic home. This beautifully designed silver round has great attention to detail, and is .999 pure silver. This is the 2nd released version of the Kraken round produced by Anonymous Mint. This round is a great addition to any collection, particularly for those who love mythical creatures.
The Kraken featured on this round looks a little less ferocious than what tales will have you believe. With wide eyes and an almost adorable depiction, the Kraken is released upon an unsuspecting Viking ship, which does nod towards the rich seafaring history that has tales of this mighty beast from the deep going back centuries. Stories about Krakens had them believed to be of an impossible size, with some tall tales insisting that the beasts from the deep were a mile in diameter, with countless arms that were said to have been able to engulf a ship of any size in an instant.
The obverse of the Kraken Silver Round features an image of the Kraken as it attacks a Viking longboat, while some of the sailors are tossed into the air. Some of the remaining crew try valiantly to fight off the creature that has emerged from the deep.
The reverse of the Kraken Silver round features the Anonymous Mint logo. The logo depicts an owl, in a position that is very much reminiscent of the traditional American bald eagle posed upon American coinage. The owls wings are spread wide, and in his talons he clutches the arrows of war. A crown with A.M. (Anonymous Mint) emblazoned upon it and 13 stars float above the head of the wise old owl.
Each of these beautifully designed Kraken Silver Rounds has an antique finish. Using a chemical solution, silver rounds are polished so that the end result is a worn antiqued look without the rounds needing to be handled for years upon end. Antique finishes add a warm heirloom quality to the rounds.
