On July 16, 1969, a Saturn V rocket lifted off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, carrying with it the command module, service module, and Eagle lander module that made up the Apollo spacecraft. After three days in transit, the Apollo 11 spacecraft entered the Moons orbit. At this point, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin transferred to the Eagle lander module to prepare for descent to the Moon. From there, the rest is history, as they say.

Obverse

On the obverse of 1 oz Silver Apollo 11 Moment of Silence Rounds is the image of Buzz Aldrin. He is seemingly alone on the Moon as Earth is visible over his shoulder in the distant cold of Space. However, reflect in his visor are the images of the Eagle lander and fellow astronaut Neil Armstrong. The inscriptions around the edge of the design field capture the moment in this image. These inscriptions read I Would Like To Request A Few Moments Of Silence, July 20, 1969, Buzz Aldrin, and Sea of Tranquility.

Reverse

The reverse field of Silver Apollo 11 Moment of Silence Rounds comes with an image of the Apollo 11 mission patch. This patch depicts a bald eagle landing on the Moon as it clutches an olive branch in its talons. The Earth is once again visible in the background of Space. Within the design field, you will find inscriptions of Apollo 11, 1969-2019, and 50^th Anniversary. Around the rim of the design field are inscriptions of One Ounce and .999 Fine Silver.

History

The Apollo 11 silver round series consisted initially of eight designs on 1 oz silver rounds with a mintage of 5,000 rounds per design. This re-release of the stunning designs with 24-karat gold plating brings the designs back with low mintages of just 500 rounds per design.
