Engelhard Corporation was established in 1902 by Charles W. Engelhard Sr. and became one of the best-known names in precious metals refining and fabrication. Thanks to MTB and the MKS PAMP Group, Engelhard-branded bullion is back. These modern pieces are the first reproductions of historic Engelhard designs, such as silver rounds styled after the original 1982 Prospector Round. Today, 1 oz Silver Engelhard Prospector Rounds are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1 oz Silver Engelhard Prospector Round has a proof-like finish with frosted details on the designs and mirrored fields. Single rounds ship in plastic flips, while larger orders are offered in tubes of 20 or Monster Boxes of 500, with 25 tubes in each box.
Obverse
On the obverse of the Silver Engelhard Prospector Round is the companys recognizable logo. It displays a bold E set within a globe design, with the Engelhard name above and the metal content, weight, and purity listed below. Inscriptions include ENGELHARD, ONE TROY OUNCE, and 999+ FINE SILVER.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1 oz Silver Engelhard Prospector Round features the traditional image of a prospector at work. He is shown crouched near a creek, panning for silver and gold, as was commonly practiced during the 19th century. Inscriptions read U.S.A., 2025, and THE AMERICAN PROSPECTOR.
History
Engelhard earned its reputation through breakthroughs in refining and smart acquisitions, serving as a leading supplier of metals for jewelry, electronics, and automotive uses. The company introduced many applications for platinum group metals and was long involved in refining, trading, and manufacturing until BASF purchased Engelhard in 2006 for about $5 billion, bringing an end to its run as an independent firm in the industry.
